Community Jam Day 2

Starts with Pancake breakfast at City Hall, open to all community members. At SFU, conference organizers introduce the long-term transformational vision that we’re working on together. A facilitator will help organize different open space sessions throughout the day, where groups can pose questions or challenges or host a session at the Marketplace of ideas. Participants convene in their community delegations after lunch to share their experiences and explore next steps in their community. The Community Jam wraps up with a departure to Vancouver to attend the C2UExpo Walk the Talk opening reception.

Walk the Talk - Main Conference

How are the key values of engagement - equality, reciprocity, making a difference –authentically played out in the day-to-day reality of campus-community partnerships? How can we ensure partnerships that are more real than tokenistic; based on shared power, shared decision making and diversity of perspectives? What are some critical barriers that must be addressed to enable all of us to Walk the Talk?

These and other critical questions will be explored to examine the extent to which campus-community partnerships Walk the Talk in terms of values, beliefs, expectations, project outcomes and impacts.

At C2UExpo 2017, Walk the Talk also includes a literal component as we will be moving between venues, touring the community, exploring the sights, and attending site visits.

Over four different Gatherings* during the main conference we will all come together for shared and interactive learning experiences. Here we will hear from a selection of fearless “trail blazers” whose contributions will be animated and focused by a Walk the Talk “Guide”. Each Gathering includes a ceremonial/artistic opening, innovative thought leaders, participatory engagement with the audience and insightful reflections by “Witnesses”.

*Indicates times in the program when the whole C2U conference community gathers together. All Gatherings are held at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Pacific Ballroom. 900 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, BC V6C 2W6.

Questions explored include: How do you engage in genuine community building and co-design when resources are limited? How prepared are communities to engage with universities?
